Hummingbirds at Ocean Wilderness Inn
Anna's Hummingbird

Anna's Hummingbird
A guest discovered this tiny hummingbird nest just outside their room very late in May. We've been watching the nest very carefully for about three weeks.

We decided to set up a camera inside the closest room to the nest to see if we would be able to tell when the eggs were laid and when they hatched. As you will see from the video, we had some success.
Feeding the chicks

If you look very closely you can see the tiny little beak peeking up from the nest. The mom has her beak right in the little birds mouth. If you take a look at the video below you can clearly see the hungry little chicks eagerly eating their lunch.
So... just click on the picture... After about 10 seconds of watching the nest, you will see the mom arriving at the nest. She looks around to be sure its safe and then she starts to feed her babies. Simply amazing when you know the nest is about the size of a small chicken's egg.
